organic laundry soap (even for cloth diapers)!Posted September 28 2013
We are excited for our newest arrival to get here, Eco Nuts Organic Laundry Soap! We've been testing these a few weeks now and LOVE the results. They have even been amazing on our cloth diapers! We use it on all our laundry, but I just wanted to share the information about cloth diapers because we've had questions about getting rid of funk with cloth diapers lately.
I've taken an excerpt right from the Eco Nuts website to share with you regarding cloth diapers. I'll share more on how to use it later, you can read the entire post here.
"A common reason why cloth diapers leak is residue buildup. Fabric softener will additionally make the diapers less absorbent. Even if you use free and clear or other so-called “natural detergents,” they can leave a residue on your fabric that causes it to become less absorbent. This residue can additionally cause diaper rash. Diapers are more prone to residue buildup because they are more absorbent than other fabrics.
Eco Nuts leave very little residue, so you don’t have to strip as often. It will even remove residue buildup left behind by other products.
Eco Nuts are great for cloth diapers because they do not contain any dyes, enzymes, softeners, or fragrances that contribute to the deterioration and excessive wear/tear on diapers.
Eco Nuts very effectively removes all lingering smells.
The saponin in Eco Nuts actually helps to loosen fibers in the dryer instead of tightening them, keeping your diapers as absorbent as they were when you first bought them, even after many, many washes. This loosening effect that saponin has on fibers is also why no fabric softener is needed for your diapers to be soft and fluffy.
Our Products vs. other Laundry Detergents
Chemicals found in most commercially-sold detergents can aggravate conditions such as eczema and psoriasis in areas where the fabric comes into contact with your baby’s skin. Moreover, allergic reactions in the form of a red itchy rash can appear around the openings of the diaper at the tummy or thighs. This is different from the rash that appears beneath the diaper. Because our cloth diaper detergent is organic, it does not contain harmful toxins that can harm your baby.
Our detergent for cloth diapers uses soap nuts harvested from trees grown without the use of chemicals or fertilizers. Saponin in the fruit naturally protects the trees from insects, so no pesticides have to be used. Unlike other soap nuts available out there, ours are de-seeded and sterilized for the safety of our customers—that’s the main difference.
Both Eco Nuts soap nuts and liquid detergents can be used for High Efficiency machines and are even great for hard water and grey water systems. Our all-natural soaps are low-sudsing unlike other cloth diaper detergents that use artificial foaming agents. The amount of foam produced simply does not represent cleaning power.
We’ve been loved and approved by many Cloth Diaper manufacturers!"
